IHC suspends PEMRA’s notice to UCCO for payment of outstanding dues amounting to Rs 4.5m
Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman, DG, licensing Irfan Gondal and Secretary Council Shamim Gul Durrani in United Communication Cable Operators (UCCO) case and sought reply from them in writing.
As a single bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minullah took up for hearing UCCO case Wednesday, the court suspended the notice issued by PEMRA and issued stay orders.
Rahila Butt appeared on behalf of petitioner and told the court that PEMRA has issued notice of Rs 4.5 million to UCCO for payment of outstanding dues which constitutes violation of SRO-2009. The petitioner has challenged in the court the notice sent by PEMRA. She told the court that as per PEMRA rules, payable amount per CD program amounts to Rs 140,000 while PEMRA in its notice has said that license will be cancelled if payment of Rs 4.5 million is not made.
The court on hearing the arguments suspended notice sent by PEMRA and issued stay order.
The hearing of the case was adjourned indefinitely.
