MQM, PPP verbal tirade continues

Mutahhida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Rauf Siddiqui said Tuesday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah’s controversial use of the word “muhajir” is a religious issue and not a political one, cesuring PPP leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan for blaming MQM for using religion in politics

The MQM leader said that the definition of “muhajir” is clearly stated in the Holy Quran, adding that denying a single word of the Quran is equivalent to blasphemy.

He said that appeals by the PPP to ignore Shah’s statement after his apology are not acceptable.

“Yes, MQM is a liberal political party…but we are Muslims too,” the MQM leader said.

He said MQM never initiated mudslinging and criticism.

He said that Ahsan was trying to confuse religion with politics and suggested that he first advise the PPP leadership instead of MQM Chairman Altaf Hussain.

“The MQM leadership condemned the mistreatment meted out to PPP Chirman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in London,” he said.

The MQM leader said that his party had favored the PPP in the past, even in trying times. “MQM gave PPP a free hand to conduct its rally in Karachi on October 18,” said Siddiqi, adding that it seemed as if PPP had forgotten all the favours of MQM.
