The appointment of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz as Prime Minister Youth Loan Scheme (PMYLS) chairperson has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The constitutional petition in this respect was filed by Muhammad Ashiq Bhatti, a citizen of Islamabad, through advocate Yasir Mehmood Chaudhry. The federation, through secretary cabinet division, and Maryam Nawaz has been made respondents in the case.

The petitioner has taken the plea that the appointment of Maryam as PMYLS chairperson has been made on political grounds. This way Article 27 of the Constitution has been violated. The government has violated Supreme Court (SC) decisions in Khawaja Asif and Anita Turrab case and thus the court is requested that the appointment of Maryam be declared void, he prayed.

The petitioner further said in the petition that SC had given decision in Asif and Turab case that government should make appointments of heads of all public and private corporations on the basis of merit and the posts should be advertised in newspapers. On the other hand, government had given no advertisement in newspapers for the appointment of PMYLS chairperson. He said Maryam was PM’s daughter and was associated with politics as she has given political statements in party meetings.
