The Sindh High Court (SHC) Tuesday sought comments from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Military Intelligence (MI) and Rangers director general on a petition seeking recovery of a missing man who is allegedly detained by law-enforcement agencies.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh was hearing a petition filed by Zulifqar Sharif Bughio seeking recovery of his brother Sarfraz, who is missing since July 2014.
The petitioner alleged that Rangers personnel took away his brother from Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 23 and since then his whereabouts were unknown to his family. He pleaded to the court to direct law enforcement officers to produce his brother in court.
Meanwhile, the bench gave more time to the federal law officer to submit a report verifying whether Osama Waheed, detained in Lucky Marwat internment center, was involved in any criminal case.
The petitioner had submitted that his brothers – Osama Waheed, a computer engineer and Ajmal Waheed, were whisked away by law enforcers from Karachi Airport on July 1, 2011 after their acquittal in a terrorism-related case.
“Though Ajmal was later released, Osama is still missing,” the petitioner said.
The federal law officer said that Osama is detained in an internment center in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
While hearing two separate petitions against alleged detention of two citizens by paramilitary troops, the court issued a notice to the home secretary, Rangers director general, IG Sindh and other police officials to submit their responses to the petition.
Petitioner Umair Muhammad Shareef alleged that his brother Uzair Muhammad Shareef was abducted by Rangers personnel on October 24 from his house in Garden area and since then there was no clue about his whereabouts.
Another petitioner, Abdul Majeed said that his son was taken away from his house on October 24 by Rangers personnel and was missing since then as Rangers officials had not disclosed his whereabouts.
