The Lahore High Court (LHC) received a petition against non-acceptance of resignation of opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed in the Punjab Assembly.
The petition, submitted by a citizen named Abdul Rasheed, stated that opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed tendered his resignation on August 27 but the speaker of Punjab Assembly did not accept it.
The petitioner said the speaker did not have the authority to reject or return the resignation as per Article 64 of the constitution. He pleaded the court to issue directions for acceptance of opposition leader’s resignation.
