Burka Avenger bags Best TV Show title at Asian Media Awards

Burka Avenger, Pakistan’s pioneer animated series, has won the Best TV Show Award at the Second Asian Media Awards held in Manchester on Tuesday evening.

 

 

Created  and directed by singer Aaron Haroon Rashid and produced by Unicorn Black Studios, Burka Avenger  first aired on Geo Tez TV channel on July 28, 2013.

The series, comprising of 13 episodes, tells the story of a teacher with an alter ego of a  burka-clad superheroine named Jiya who fights the bad guys bent on closing girl schools with a special martial art ‘Takhtkabbadi’ that incorporates books and pens for defence.

Actress Ainy Jaffri is the voice behind the ‘Jiya’ while Hamza Abbasi is the voice artist for the  evil magician ‘Baba Bandook’,

Songs from singers Ali Azmat, Ali Zafar and Josh Band have also been featured in its episodes.

Burka Avenger has a number of international titles, awards and mentions to its name. It won the Peabody Award in 2013, and the International Gender Equity Prize at Prix Jeunesse International Festival.

The animated series also bagged the Rising Star Award in animation category at  at Canada International Film Festival.
