The Anti Narcotics Court (ANC) has indicted eight people including Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi and his brother Basit Abbasi in ephedrine quota allotment case.

A case was registered against Hanif Abbasi and others on July, 27, 2012 under the charges of illegal use of 500 kilogrammes of ephedrine and non manufacturing of the requisite medicines. Hanif Abbasi, Basit Abbasi and their business partners including Ahmad Bilal, Ghazanfar Ali, Seraj Abbasi, Nasir Khan, Rana Mohsin Khurshid and Nazakat Khan have been nominated in the case.

ANF Investigation Officer Syed Imtiaz Shah investigated this case. Legal director Agha Sabaul Hassan and special prosecutor Shahid Mehmood Abbasi appeared in the court.

Abbasi requested the court he was ready to face this case legally. The court should indict him in this case and he would face the case, he prayed.

While indicting the accused persons with regard to the challan of the case provided by ANF, the court read out charge sheet to them. Abbasi and other accused pleaded not guilty.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till November, 12 and issued summons to 10 prosecution witnesses to record their evidence. The court directed ANF to ensure presence of these witnesses in the court.

In his brief chat with media men outside the court, Abbasi said case was tailored against him politically. Whatever quota he had obtained was used by him in manufacturing the medicines, he added. “I will prove the allegations levelled by ANF false in the court. We have trust on courts,” he held.

  1. Why leaders do more business when they are in power? Do they aim at doing things that cannot be done when they are not in power. When Amir Muhammad Khan was the Governor of West Pakistan, none of his relative or friend was allowed to enter the Governor House. Is there any case of corruption against Governor Amin Muhammad Khan? One should learn politics from these people instead of Hanif Abbasi or Sheikh Rasheed.
