The Sindh High Court (SHC) sought comments from the home secretary, secretary local government, DIG and SSP West and other police officials on a petition against a police post which was set up in a government dispensary in Organi Town.
A division bench headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi was hearing a petition filed by a resident of Orangi Town who moved the court against the Peerabad police for having set up post and harassing residents. The court also directed the Peerabad police to act strictly in accordance with the law and not to cause any harassment to the petitioner.
The petitioner, Muhammad Yousuf said the provincial authorities had established a dispensary namely, Khattak Shaheed government dispensary in a government building on a main Metrovile Road, SITE, for welfare of the residents of the locality. He added that two months back, the Peerabad police occupied half portion of the building and set up their post on the pretext of security purposes. Subsequently, they also blocked the road in front of the building by erecting an iron gate which was causing difficulties for the residents.
He alleged that police personnel posted there were source of public nuisance as they unjustly stop every passer-by and subject them to harassment. Moreover, police personnel also indulge in immoral activities including intoxication, using abusive language, turning up the volume of TV, he said, adding that due to these illegal acts, residents now avoid going to dispensary for treatment.
He claimed that police had illegally occupied the dispensary and pleaded the court to direct official respondent to restrain police from harassing public and remove the post from the building.
