Eight Afghan policemen were killed in a Taliban attack on Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in north-eastern Badakshan province early Sunday, local official said.
The incident took place in Warduj district of the province after the Taliban insurgents attacked the ANSF, starting a clash with the forces.
Nawid Frotan, spokesman to the provincial governor, confirmed the clash, but did not provide details about the casualties.
Warduj district is one of the most insecure areas in the province; the ANSF outposts in the area have been under Taliban attacks multiple times in the past.
The Taliban insurgents have not yet commented about the attack.
ROADSIDE BOMBINGS:
Separately, four civilians were killed in two separate roadside bombings in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, an official said on Sunday.
The blasts happened in Mama Karez and Mang areas of Maiwand district late on Saturday, police spokesman Zia Durrani said. He said the Mama Karez explosion left three pedestrians dead and six others wounded. He blamed the Taliban for planting the roadside bomb.
Durrani added that in the second blast one motorcyclist was killed and two others were wounded in Mang area.
INSURGENTS GROUPS ARRESTED:
In the meanwhile, the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) arrested five insurgent groups during their operations in Kabul, Faryab, Nangarhar, Nimruz and Logar provinces, the NDS announced in a statement on Sunday.
A Taliban shadow governor in Nad Ali district is among the arrested people who arrived in the country recently after finishing military training outside Afghanistan, the statement said, adding that six others insurgents were captured and their arms seized in northern Faryab province.
The NDS was also able to arrest Aqil Khan, an insurgent who placed roadside mines in Logar province to target the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), on Kabul-Logar Highway, as well as four insurgents active in eastern Nangarhar and western Nimruz provinces.
