CDA challans 747 for selling unhygienic food items

Health Services Directorate of the Capital Development Authorities in its continuing operation against the sale of unhygienic, expired and adulterated edible items in the markets of Federal Capital has issued hundreds of notices over the past four months to the violators of PPF Sections of the CDA Ordinance 1960.

Similarly, special teams of Health Services Directorate challaned 747 people since January this year for selling unhygienic, substandard and adulterated food items. Teams of Health Services Directorate challaned 69, 74, 83 and 57 people in the month of July, August, September and October respectively, for selling unhygienic, substandard and adulterated food items in the city.

During this special drive, Health Services Directorate’s teams have also carried out operation against those, selling the expired or unhygienic edible items at their shops. Special teams have confiscated 1666 different edible items since January this year and destroyed them there and then.  Moreover, 607 cracked / chipped utensils have also been confiscated and were destroyed. During the operation, teams of Health Services Directorate have partially sealed 20 different restaurants, bakeries and hotels for selling unhygienic and substandard food items and First Information Report (FIR) have also been lodged against two violators of the CDA Ordinance 1960. Each special team of Health Services Directorate is led by a Food Inspector and all the teams are working under the supervision of Health Officer. Their performance is being reviewed by the Authority on daily basis.

In the meanwhile, Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed has said that operations against the sale of substandard and unhygienic food items and cold drinks will continue with pace so that availability of healthy food and cold drinks could be ensured. He said that stern action would be taken against the violators of rules and regulations. He said that the campaign against unhygienic edible items would continue without favour or fear.
