After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Javed Naseem failed to submit a reply to a show-cause notice issued by his party’s leadership, his basic party membership was terminated on Saturday.
Naseem, elected from PK-3, had on October 5 staged a protest outside the Peshawar Press Club against the PTI leadership and issued statements against them. This had prompted the PTI leadership to issue him a show-cause notice to explain why he had breached party policy.
In a press release issued on Saturday, PTI said that per directives and approval of the party’s provincial President Azam Swati, Naseem’s basic party membership was terminated.
“A letter of cancellation of party membership is served to him and a copy of the same is sent to the secretary provincial assembly Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Election Commission of Pakistan for necessary action.”
Naseem has had a history of differences with the PTI leaders, especially Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. Elected from Peshawar city in the May 2013 general elections, Naseem and Khattak fell out a year ago. As a result of their differences, Naseem even headed a forward block of PTI MPA’s in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. He had been attending recent sessions of the assembly with a black band on his mouth.
The group of dissidents still exists but it seemed to be on the verge of collapse when Deputy Speaker Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi was inducted in the cabinet as Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Other members of the dissident group now plan fielding their own candidate for the Deputy Speaker post.
