Daniel Pearl case: Acquitted suspect detained under MPO

Qari Hashim, an accused of Daniel Pearl murder case who was acquitted by the court on Friday, has again been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order rules.

An anti-terrorism court in Hyderabad Central Jail on Friday acquitted Hashim in abduction and slaying case of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi in 2002.

Inspector Gneral (IG) Jails Nusrat Hussain Mangan talking to media personnel at Nara Jail, Hyderabad said that the Government of Sindh has ordered detention of Hashim for 90 days under the MPO.

He said that 85 dangerous prisoners have been imprisoned in Central Jail Hyderabad.

Replying to a question, he said that Karachi Central Jail tunnel incident is being investigated and scores of suspects have been arrested.

He added that security has been on high alert in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur jails after the Karachi jail break bid.

Mangan said that the security in jails will be stepped up during Muharram with the help of para military forces.
