Breast cancer clinic inaugurated at HFH

Rawalpindi Medical College and Allied Hospitals Principal Professor Dr Muhammad Umer Friday performed the ground-breaking ceremony of a modern breast cancer clinic at Holy Family Hospital (HFH).

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Umer said that the situation of breast cancer in Pakistan is alarming as Pakistan has the highest number of cases of breast cancer in Asia.

“One out of eight women in Pakistan face breast cancer during their life,” he said, adding the mortality rate from the disease is greater in women of developing countries like Pakistan than those in more developed countries. “This is because in Pakistan, the disease is usually detected later when treatment results are poor,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Idrees said that HFH has a surgical ward, a busy out-patient department (OPD), 24-hour emergency services along with 60-bedded indoor facilities.

“Holy Family Hospital deals with a wide range of general surgery cases, including a significant number of patients with breast diseases,” said Dr Idrees.
