President stands strong against polio

In a message on World Polio Day being observed today (Friday), President Mamnoon Hussain has reiterated the government’s resolve to continue making every possible effort towards eradication of polio.

While appreciating the international partners, foreign governments and international NGOs for their valuable assistance towards fight against polio, the president commended the efforts being made locally by all those who are committed towards safe and secure future of our younger generations.

Hussain called upon the civil society, religious leaders, media and people from all walks of life to play greater role towards creating awareness against polio, complementing government efforts and facilitating polio teams to reach out to each and every child in every nook and corner of the country.

The president said the observance of World Polio Day has a special significance for Pakistan as the nation was one of those which were still fighting this crippling disease.

“The day therefore is an occasion to reiterate our commitment to make even greater efforts for securing the future of our children from the perils and the disabilities caused by Polio.”

The president said Polio eradication is the highest priority of the government of Pakistan.

“We are taking all possible measures to check this endemic disease. Besides political commitment at the highest level, the mobilization of civil society, religious and local communities and the media is a testimony of our sincere efforts to eradicate this menace from our soil. It is indeed a matter of great concern for us that despite hectic efforts, poliovirus is still being reported in some parts of the country and continues to threaten the future of our children. But let us not be oblivious to the fact that polio cases are being reported mostly in those areas which are undergoing peculiar security situation.”
