ISLAMABAD-
Pakistan on Thursday said that India, under the cover of unprovoked firing and shelling, is trying to construct new bunkers within 500 metres of the working boundary, in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
At a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said that the ceasefire agreement prohibits both countries from carrying out constructions within 500 meters of either side of the working boundary.
“Pakistan would never permit this construction,” she said.
She added that Pakistani forces have given a ‘measured response’ to the Indian aggression in consideration of the Kashmiri people on the other side of the border.
Speaking about the border skirmishes with Iran, Aslam said that those incidents were not similar to the ones with India while adding that Pakistan and Iran enjoy strong multifaceted relations and both are seeking out ways to improve border surveillance and root out irritants.
On Afghanistan, Aslam informed media that the newly-elected Afghan President will visit Islamabad soonn on an invitation by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
She reiterated Pakistan’s stance that it is ready to extend all possible support to Kabul in an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process.
The spokeswoman further stated that ties with Russia are moving in an ‘upward trajectory’ and both, Russian and Pakistan, are desirous to strengthen their ties.
Speaking about Pakistani Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Aslam said that Yousafzai is a daughter of Pakistan who made the country proud with her achievements and she is free to visit her homeland whenever she wants to.
