President urges youth to acquire modern education

President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday urged the youth to concentrate on acquiring modern education not only to compete at every level and excel in their lives but also to put the country onto the path of progress and prosperity.

Addressing the gathering during his visit to the first public sector university of Gilgit-Baltistan, KarakoramInternationalUniversity, the President said that our youth was blessed with huge talents and it is only through quality education that their true potential can be exploited for the benefit of the society. He said that the vast potential of the country can be best tapped only by an educated nation.

The President, who is also the chancellor of the University, underscored the need for focusing on faculty development programmes in education institutions in order enable them impart quality education to the youth. He stressed on strict adherence to merit and transparency in the education sector.

The President said that the KarakoramUniversity should introduce more disciplines including forestry, architecture, archeology and other related fields so that the youth of the area could better serve their region. Emphasizing upon the need for development of education infrastructure, the President said the nations which lag behind in the education sector cannot fully exploit their true potential and their socio-economic progress is halted.

The President said development of education sector especially the universities has been his foremost priority and he would continue his efforts for bringing improvement in the education sector of the country.

Expressing satisfaction over the number of female students in the University, the President urged the female students to keep on acquiring education in order to play their role in national development.  He asked the KarakoramUniversity’s administration to consider opening a girls’ campus of the university at Hunza.  The President also appreciated the university’s efforts to open new campuses at Chillas, Ghizar and Upper Hunza and assured of all possible support in this regard.

The President said he is fully cognizant of the issues being faced by the University and assured his full support towards redressal of those issues.

Addressing the gathering, the President urged the students and the teachers to create awareness in society about issues that we face today including population explosion and menace of corruption. “You are opinion makers of the society and it is your responsibility to collectively work for development of the country”, added the president.

Turning to the initiatives taken by the present government in different sectors, the President highlighted various steps taken by the present Government for socio-economic betterment of the people, strengthening of economy and addressing various issues including energy crisis that adversely impact common man.

About Pak-China economic corridor, the President said this will open up new vistas of opportunities and would generate huge economic activities in the entire country including Gilgit Baltistan. “Development of Gwadar International Airport, Lahore-Karachi motorway project and making Gwadar Port fully operational are part of this important project which will change the destiny of this nation”, added the President

Earlier Vice Chancellor of the Karakoram International University Dr Muhammad Asif Khan, in his welcome address, apprised about the ongoing and future development schemes of the University
