NAB to move against top babu for launching development work in former PM Ashraf’s Gujar Khan
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry decided Wednesday to move against the family members of a sitting Sindhi lawmaker of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) besides approving a reference against a top official of Pakistan PWD for awarding a work permit without approval of the planning commission.
A NAB Executive Board (EB) meeting decided to file a corruption reference against Pak PWD Islamabad Chief Engineer (North) Shah Din Sheikh and others for awarding work permit for a development project in NA-51 Gujar Khan – the constituency of then prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. The former premier was accused of diverting development funds to his constituency from other heads including the National Highway Authority (NHA).
A source told Pakistan Today that the reference was filed as Rs 48,700,000 had been released as PM’s discretionary grant and a work permit had been issued without approval of the project’s PC 1.
PROBE ORDERED AGAINST AYAZ SHIRAZI’S FAMILY:
Meanwhile, NAB EB also authorised complaint verification (CV) against former lawmaker Shafqat Shah Shirazi and former Sindh Assembly member from Thatta Ejaz Shah Shirazi. Both are close relatives of Ayaz Shirazi, a lawmaker from Thatta elected on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket. The accused face charges of corruption, misuse of authority and accumulation of assets beyond the known sources of income. Anothe CV was against IESCO CEO Javed Pervez on charges of corruption, corrupt practices and misuse of authority.
Meanwhile, the NAB EB approved Rs120.9 million application submitted by Capital Development Authority (CDA) contractor Sardar Muhammad Ashraf and authorised enquiries against Punjab Privatization Board chairman, Sindh Engineering (Pvt) Limited Karachi former chairman Azhar l Jaferri, Utility Stores Corporation Deputy MD Masood Alam Niazi and Peshawar Customs Department Director Akhlaq Khattak.
