LHC wants govt to explain power hike

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to Ministry of Water and Power and others on a petition filed against recent increase in power tariff in the name of Fuel Adjustment Surcharge (FAS) and sought reply from them within three weeks.

Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of LHC took up for hearing the petition filed by the petitioner Anwar Bibi Tuesday.

The petitioner took the plea that recent hike in the name of FAS by the government in electricity bills is tantamount to commit robbery on the pockets of people.

The government is “embarrassing” the common man by imposing different taxes rather than providing relief, she added. This enhancement in the bills constitutes blatant violation of Article 25 of the Constitution, she added, praying the court to nullify the recent increase announced by government in the power tariff in the name of FAS.
