KP govt says service structure and regulations for LHWs evolved, notified

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has filed a reply in Supreme Court (SC) in lady health workers (LHWs) regularisation of service case stating that service structure and other rules and regulations in respect of LHWs have been evolved and notified.

While presiding over a three-member SC bench hearing Bushra Araen’s case Tuesday, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked, “We are pinning too many expectations on the KP government. Why has it [KP government] gone so apathetic that LHWs are being prevented from performing their professional duties and are being targeted? Only our external enemies can do this thing in Pakistan.”

KP advocate general (AG) and chief secretary (CS) told court that service structure and rules and regulations in respect of LHWs have been worked out and notification in this respect has been issued.

The court directed the KP government to finalise these matters soon and present report thereof before it. The court expressed its reservations about attacks on LHWs and other related matters in KP.

It may be mentioned that governments of Sindh and Punjab have not only regularized LHWs already but also have implemented court’s other orders.

The hearing of the case was adjourned for a month.
