The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 62 (f) of the Constitution for allegedly making a ‘false statement’ in the Parliament till Thursday.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, Irfan Qadir, counsel for the petitioners, told the bench that he moved an application for the formation of larger bench to hear the case and recuse Justice Jawwad S Khawaja from the bench, which was rejected by the Registrar Supreme Court. He said that the petitioners had filed an in-chamber application against the refusal of application.
He said he would raise questions of national and public interest relating to basic fundamental rights. The court should form a larger bench to hear the case as formed in the cases of Yousuf Raza Gilani and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case, he added.
The bench remarked that another petitioner had already filed an application to form a larger bench and the court would hear both applications on Thursday.
