Selfie with happy camel goes viral online

A photo of a camel flashing a wide smile as it posed for a selfie with three friends has gone viral on social media in recent weeks.

Friends Hossam Antikka, 20, Karem Abdelaziz, 22, and Misara Salah, 24, told news agency Caters they spent half an hour feeding the camel somewhere in northern Giza, Egypt, before they decided to take a group selfie with the desert dweller.

It turned out, the camel was excited about making new friends and had no problem with showing his joy to the camera.

Photographer Antikka said he had no idea the camel – usually reputable for biting and spitting – smiled for the camera until he checked his kit later.

“It was a really nice camel, so I thought it was only right we should have a photo with it,” Antikka said.

“We had been playing with it and feeding it shortly before I took the picture so I think it was happy to see us.

“It makes me feel so joyful every time I look at the picture. I think it is God’s way of rewarding me.

“Other people seem to like it too, they have commented on how the picture is so full happiness and positivity.

“I posted the picture on Facebook and went to bed but when I woke up the picture had gone viral,” he said.
