ISLAMABAD-
The Federal Government on Monday imposed a 30 paisa per unit EQ surcharge on electricity for consumers.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Water and Power, the government has imposed fresh taxes on the consumers in the name of equalization (EQ) surcharge.
30 paisa per unit would be received through the new surcharge that is likely to pull Rs 4 billion per month.
The equalization surcharge is to be applied to all the consumers except K-Electric (Formerly: Karachi Electric Supply Company Ltd) .
EQ surcharge is being imposed in the wake of payments’ interruption.
Consumers are to pay for the interest caused by the delay in liabilities to the power plants.
Imposition of EQ surcharge is one of the conditions of International Monetary Fund (IMF).
