KWSB ‘apathetic’ to Services Hospital’s water woes

Water shortage continues to irk patients, staff and attendants in city’s Services Hospital, as Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) administration has yet to bother to connect water supply line of the hospital despite the passage of several years.

Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPMSA) Sindh President Niaz Hussain Bhutto said incompetent KWSB official has discontinued the water supply to Services Hospital Karachi but it is receiving Rs 0.6 million from hospital administration for restoring and repairing water supply line every year.

He said the hospital administration had forwarded complaint letters to KWSB officials asking them to repair the water supply line on several occasions but the administration does not bother to get repair choked water supply line. He said patients, attendants and staff are compelled to buy water from market.

Bhutto warned that if the KWSB administration did not repair the water lines of hospital within two weeks then PPMSA will stage a protest demonstration against inhuman act at M A Jinnah Road along with patients. He demanded of the minister local bodies Sindh and KWSB chairman to play their role in resolving this prolonged issue by restoring potable water supply to the Service Hospital Karachi.

Services Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Tofiqui said there were three water supply lines installed in the hospital out of them one is not functioning and it has partially disturbed the supply of water.  He said administration has requested the KWSB to install one more water supply line for the hospital and we are also planning to install a ‘RO water plant’ in the hospital to resolve the water issue.
