Senators denounce Indian firing on LoC

Senate leader Raja Zafarul Haq says govt will look after the families of those martyred in LoC firing

The Upper House on Friday strongly condemned Indian firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and the Sialkot Working Boundary.

The Senate session began in Islamabad with Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bukhari in the chair.

Senate Leader of House Raja Zafarul Haq strongly denounced Indian firing along the LoC and Working Boundary.

“The Pakistan Army has effectively responded to the Indian aggression. As a result, there is reduction in fire from the other side over the past two to three days,” he said, adding that the government would fully look after the families of those martyred in the attacks.

Haq rejected the impression that the government had not issued any statement against the Indian hostility and said that the statements would be presented before the House.

Earlier on a point of order, Babar Awan proposed that the House should hold a sdiscussion on the situation.

Haq asked the chair to fix the earliest possible date for discussion on the matter.

The House also offered fateha for those killed in Indian firing.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab told the House during question hour that minorities were also being assisted per the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

“The government is extending all possible assistance to the internally displaced persons in cash and kind,” he added.

In a written reply, Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi told the House that the government was finalising a five-year textile policy to enhance exports of textile related products.

“A comprehensive textile package has been announced in the current fiscal year budget to promote value addition in the industry,” he reportedly stated.

The House also unanimously passed a resolution felicitating Malala Yousafzai on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

The resolution moved by Haji Adeel said that the Swat-based Nobrel laureate has given innumerable sacrifices for peace and promotion of education.

“The House salutes the struggle and efforts of Malala Yousafzai in this regard.”

Later, Parliamentary Affairs minister presented the Federal Public Service Commission’s (FPSC’s) annual report for Year 2013.

The House has been adjourned to meet again on Monday at 4 pm.
