Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) Chairman Hamid A Zahur has rejected the upward revision of water tariff for industry, terming it uncalled.

Zahur said that the KWSB act would only contribute to push-up production cost and would adversely affect exporting industry in particular since it will erode its competitiveness in the global markets whereas it should be made conducive for the industry to increase the exports which only can bailout the country from the current financial crisis it is facing.

The PTA chairman has further pointed out that Tannery Zone is not getting water for over a decade now. No efforts are being made for supply of water to the largest national cluster of exporting leather industry and its made-up units  at Sector 7/A of Korangi Industrial Area KIA contributing over 35 percent of total foreign exchange earnings of national leather industry.

He pointed out that Sindh governor was kind to have sanctioned an amount of Rs 44.255 million for laying fresh water supply pipe network to restore supply. KW&SB simply buried the huge amount without the supply of a single drop of water to Tannery Zone and there was no accountability from the high ups, he added.
