Andy Murray earned a hard-fought 6-4 6-4 win over Vasek Pospisil to reach the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
Murray, who needs to climb inside the world’s top eight players to qualify for the ATP Tour World Finals in London, boosted his chances of making the year-ending tournament with the win over Pospisil.
The current world number 10, who changed his schedule to compete in Vienna for the first time in the hope of reaching London, struggled for rhythm throughout the contest, handing his opponent the opportunity to break on numerous occasions.
Murray showed his experience, however, taking the initiative when Pospisil failed to take his chance and battled to a straight-sets victory.
