Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International airport has been ranked as the ‘worst’ airport around the world in a survey by an online airport guide, British daily The Guardian reported on Friday.
According to the report, Islamabad airport took over the first rank from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino international airport (NAIA) which had been atop the list for three years in surveys by the online Guide to Sleeping in Airports.
NAIA is now ranked as the fourth worst airport.
Manila lost its first-place ranking to Benazir Bhutto international airport in Islamabad which the reviewers have described as a “central prison” where aggressive security checks and uncleanliness reign.
The annual survey asks travellers to rank airports on comfort, cleanliness, customer service, amenities such as restaurants and Wi-Fi, and sleeping-in-the-open policies, the report adds.
Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz international airport, known for “rude immigration officers and lengthy queues” was ranked at second and Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan international airport was ranked at third.
New York City’s LaGuardia airport was ranked tenth in the list.US vice-president, Joe Biden in February compared the airport’s condition to a “third-world country”.

Congratulations to our leaders on declaration of Islamabad airport as the worst in the world. Will it open their eyes. Isn't it strange that the capital has no airport of its own. The current airport belongs to Pakistan Airforce. Now that a new airport has been planned, no body is bothered to complete the project. Several project directors have been removed during the past. What was important ! A new airport for the capital or the Jangla Bus ? Isn't it strange that The new airport is 90 % complete & still it has no link road. Civil aviation, Nha & ministry of communication deserve medals for going slow on this National project. Is there any body who would look into this matter ?

Imran khan can’t build airports any faster. In fact, Peshawar has the worst airport of all, and PTI can’t even ensure that landing planes don’t get shot at!
