According to unofficial and unconfirmed results of all 286 polling stations in NA-149, independent candidate Amir Dogar has defeated Makhdoom Javed Hashmi with a margin of more than 10,000 votes.
Dogar bagged 57,972 votes while the former PTI president managed to secure 47,500 votes.
Speaking to reporters, Hashmi conceded his defeat and congratulated the PTI-backed candidate for winning the by-election. The former PTI president said that he had been able to bag 47, 500 votes which was a feat in itself for him as his former party had put in rigorous efforts to garner support for his rival candidate.
“The people of Multan were angry with me for leaving PTI and they showed their displeasure by voting against me,” he said.
Although standing as an independent candidate, Hashmi enjoyed support from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Being elected from the constituency twice, Hashmi was banking on his personal contacts and the PML-N vote bank.
