Health depart issues alert to public hospitals for ‘isolation wards’

In the light of federal government directives, the Sindh health department has issued an alert notice to all the major public hospitals of the province and ordered them to establish isolation wards.

The federal government issued directions to all four provincial governments to prepare strategy to control Ebola in Pakistan. It asked the provincial governments to set up special isolation units at airports to tackle the disease. All passengers will be screened at all entrance and exit points.

The order has been issued to set up special medical camps at shipping port. It has also been decided to install screening gate at airports to check passengers coming from foreign countries against the disease. The health department has said that Ebola virus may move in Pakistan from foreign countries.

On the directives of federal government, the Sindh health department has issued Ebola virus to alert all teaching hospitals of province. It was stated in alert notification that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared international health emergency about Ebola virus and virus may move to Pakistan. Thousands of people had been killed in world due to Ebola virus so far.

The health department has directed the heads of all public hospitals to establish isolation ward and unauthorised people should not be allowed to meet Ebola patients under precautionary measures. It was also directed to follow the guideline of National Institute of Health Islamabad issued in this regard.

The health department also sought the list of doctors and paramedical from teaching hospitals to train them about Ebola virus treatment in Islamabad.
