National Assembly Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah has said that he respects the Supreme Court and that the court’s decisions would be implemented, but added that he wanted to review afresh the system of appointment of chief election commissioner in the under consideration electoral reforms committee.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, the opposition leader said he would present his recommendations and reasons for the delay in the CEC’s appointment, in the SC.

“The CEC would be appointed on the basis of the process that is decided upon in the electoral reforms,” said Shah.

He demanded a transparent judicial enquiry –within two weeks time – of the deaths in stampede that occurred during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Multan rally.

“It must be clarified whether the administration of the rally or the district administration was responsible for the incident,” he said.
