PTI chief demands judicial probe into Multan stampede

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has demanded a judicial enquiry into the stampede at the end of PTI’s Multan rally in which at least eight people were killed and over 100 others were injured.
The stampede triggered when thousands of PTI supporters rushed towards the exit gates of Qasim Bagh Stadium as power supply was disrupted.
“A third umpire is always needed whether to probe election rigging or incidents like this one,” Imran Khan said before leaving Multan for Islamabad where he had come to condole with the victims’ families.

Imran Khan said PTI was also conducting an intra-party investigation into the incident.

Holding the government responsible for the incident, Imran said, “If you [government] lock the gates from outside and the electricity goes as well, then such an incident is unavoidable.”
The Punjab government had formed a three-member committee to probe the tragedy, however PTI has rejected it.
