A series of bomb attacks has left at least 26 people dead in Iraq, amid the deadly violence that rages on across the country.

According to Wahab Ahmed, the mayor of the town of Qara Tapah, three car bombs hit his office and two other buildings on Sunday.

He said the blasts also damaged nearby buildings used by the electricity department and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces’ veterans affairs bureau.

A top security official in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region put the death toll at 27 and said most of the dead were Peshmerga veterans who had volunteered to return to active duty to battle Islamic State (IS) terrorists. However, a local federal army official confirmed 25 deaths.

Qara Tapah is located close to Jalawla, which is a key battleground northeast of the Iraq’s capital city Baghdad.

Meanwhile, a separate bomb blast killed the police chief of Iraq’s restive province Anbar. Officials said that the bombing took place near the provincial capital Ramadi in the Abu Risha District.

“Major General Ahmed Saddag was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeting his convoy this morning,” Faleh al-Issawi, the deputy head of the provincial council, said.

“He was leading forces involved in an operation to retake Twei from the IS,” Colonel Abdulrahman al-Janabi said.

The overall security situation in Iraq has worsened over the past months after the terrorists of the IS, of whom many are foreign militants, took control of parts of Iraq’s northern and western regions.

They have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheadings of people.

  1. This incident was really worst as the precious lives of those who had died in this attack. This should be ended because we all need peace and this is really inhumanity to do such kind of acts.
