At least 21 suspected militants were killed Sunday as the armed forces of Pakistan conducted airstrikes in North Waziristan and Khyber Agency.
At least 11 suspected militants were killed and several others injured as three militant hideouts were razed in military airstrikes in Kokikhel, Dwatoe, Wocho Wona, Fateh Sar and Raj Gal areas of the restive NWA, a statement said.
Security sources said the terrorists killed in the airstrikes belong to banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Earlier on August 30, at least 32 suspected militants were killed and three militant hideouts were destroyed by the Army’s gunship helicopters in a remote area of Bangidar in NWA.
KHYBER AGENCY AERIAL STRIKES KILL 10:
In separate airstrikes in Khyber Agency’s Kuki Khel area, at least 10 suspected militants were killed and three militant hideouts were destroyed, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said.
The Pakistan Army launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb on June 15 following a brazen militant attack on KarachiAirport and failure of peace talks between the government and TTP negotiators.
TTP terrorists and their Uzbek allies both claimed responsibility for the airport attack, which was seen as a strategic turning point in how Pakistan tackles the insurgency.
Nearly a million people have fled the offensive in NWA, which is aimed at wiping out longstanding militant strongholds in the area which borders Afghanistan.
NWA has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring agencies and the Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) regions to block any move of terrorists in and out of the agency.
