Taliban threatens to blow up shopping centre if extortion money is not paid

A prominent business group that owns a famous shopping centre in the federal capital was sent an extortion letter reportedly by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) demanding Rs 600 million.

The letter brought into light the alarming revelation of extortion being committed in Islamabad. The Taliban have threatened to blow up the shopping centre if the extortion money is not paid.

The administration of the shopping centre has handed over the letter to the Margalla Police which has registered a case against TTP on request of shopping centre’s security in-charge. Following the registration of case, the police started probing the matter.

It merits mentioning here that business section and prominent personalities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have also received the extortion letters and the lack of payment even resulted in cracker attacks.

Some reports said that about one hundred businessmen of the twin cities received demands for payment of money and several of them paid the extortion amount for the safety of their lives and security of their businesses.
