The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has demanded the hurdle-free supply of gas to value-added textile sectors’ as many as 250 industrial units lying closed due to prolonged non-availability of gas in the Punjab.

While talking to the newsmen at his Sialkot office on Thursday, PRGMEA Chairman Ejaz A Khokhar urged the government to evolve a comprehensive strategy to ensure hurdle-free supply of country’s value-added textile sector by taking it into confidence saying that the value-added textile industry was not getting the raw materials from the processing industry due to which the whole of value-added textile industry had completely jammed.

He said due to the non-availability of gas by government, raw materials by processing industry and inordinate delay in the payment of the refund claims by the government, the hundreds of the small- and medium-sized industrial units of valued-added textile have been lying closed especially in Punjab. He said that several units were willing to run after getting the energy through the other resources in a bid to avert the severe financial crisis.

The PRGMEA chairman also demanded early formation of a high profiled committee of all the stake holders under the supervision of federal ministry of textile industry to resolve the industry-related issues amicably.
