Make hay while the sun shines, Zardari tells workers

• PPP co-chairman wants stronger party in Punjab, advises workers to gain advantage of current political standoff between PML-N and PTI
• Tells Khan to be patient, says no one can become leader by establishing hospital

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has told his party workers to gain advantage of the standoff between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that no one becomes a leader by establishing a hospital.

“Our ancestors built Sindh Madrassatul Islam where Pakistan’s founding leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah was trained but we never used the fact to gain political advantage,” Zardari said while speaking to party workers at Bilawal House.

“There are more than 20 personalities in Pakistan who established big hospitals,” he added, advising Khan to be patient and get experience in politics.

“All political parties should take the current political situation seriously,” said Zardari.

The former president, in an apparent jab at the PTI chief Khan and PM Sharif, advised his party workers to benefit from the situation while the two leading politicians were “wrestling each other”.

He claimed that those who used foul language against him in the past are facing the same situation.

“Sharif has realised the grave challenges of the government after coming into power and Khan will also realise it soon,” said the former president.

Even as he admitted the mistakes by the two former prime ministers from PPP, Zardari lauded his party’s five-year performance in the federal government saying, “Pakistan would have turned into Syria and Iraq but it was PPP which saved Pakistan from such a situation.”

STRONGER PPP IN PUNJAB COMING SOON:

Zardari said that PPP would be stronger in Punjab in the coming days.

While talking to party workers from Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi, he said, “PPP is not weak in Punjab but we need to make it more powerful and stronger”.

The PPP leader emphasised the need to focus on the organisation of party while claiming that the party and country benefited greatly from the patience exhibited by PPP workers.

“PPP stands firmly by its manifesto and would continue to struggle forward,” said Zardari, adding that he will transfer the older PPP – that was at its zenith – to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the new generation.
