Police ‘torture’ man to death on board Rawalpindi-bound train

A passenger was killed on Wednesday on a Rawalpindi-bound train as a result of alleged police torture over a ticketing issue, a private news channel has reported.

According to the channel, a fight broke out between the ticket checker and a passenger over an issue involving ticketing. The ticket checker called for the police, which allegedly resorted to torture and killed the passenger.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Saleem. The train, Mehar Express, was en route to Rawalpindi from Multan.

A case has been registered against the railway police officials.

Railways Minister Saad Rafique has taken notice of the incident and directed DG Railways Munir Chishti to investigate the involvement of railways police. Further, an investigative team has been formed under the supervision of DIG Shariq Kamal to probe into the incident.
