*Chief minister promises to support flood victims till complete rehabilitation
Government will continue to support the flood-hit people till they are completely rehabilitated, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while talking to journalists at the sports complex after visiting compensation distribution camp.
Shahbaz said that the process of distributing first instalment of compensation would be completed by Sunday, adding that the process of distribution of the instalments is being done in a transparent manner across the province.
Criticising ‘dharna parties’, he said that the nation would never forgive their sins.
It was their sit-ins that resulted in postponement of Chinese president’s visit to Pakistan, he said.
The chief minister said that he had appealed dharna parties to stop politicking and come to rescue and relief of flood affected people.
However, his appeal went unheard and dharna parties preferred sit-ins over providing assistance to flood hit people.
He said that the second phase of financial assistance would kick off from October 20, adding that the survey of damages to crops, cattle and houses was being conducted at 16 districts of the province.
He said that the financial assistance would also be provided to the flood-hit people who got loss in their businesses to restart their businesses in the areas.
The chief minister said that as per the directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the financial assistance worth billions of rupees is being distributed among the flood-hit people for their rehabilitation, adding that the compensation amount was shared by the federal as well as the Punjab government on the basis of 50,50 percent.
He said that he would visit various flood-hit areas during Eidul Azha and would also offer Eid prayer with flood affected people.
He said that the repairing and maintenance work on roads, bridges and schools affected with flood was continued.
VICTIMS PROTEST FOR NOT RECIEVEING COMENSATION CASH:
Meanwhile, flood-hit people of Jhang held a protest demonstration on Saturday against delay in payment of financial assistance and in 14 towns and villages.
The protestors staged a sit-in at the Sargodha Road and also raised anti-government slogans.
They said that political leaders and their officers were distributing compensation cheque among their voters and not helping those who have originally been affected by the floods.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Raja Khuram Shehzad called a meeting of relevant officers and ordered to dismiss the corrupt officers. After holding talks with affectees he ensured to resolve their problems.
