NA body for enforcing ‘respect’ of parliamentarians

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules and Procedure and Privileges has taken suo motu notice of MNA Ramesh Kumar’s off loading from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, directing the airlines company to take strict action against those responsible.

The committee also expressed resentment over public misbehaviour with Senator Rehman Malik.

The committee, in its meeting Thursday, demanded that special counters be established at all airports for arrival and departure of members of the Parliament. It also sought a report from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and PIA about action taken in the matter.

The meeting chaired by PML-N MNA Asadur Rehman regretted that the government did not take care of its MNAs while the PPP prime ministers had always taken care of their parliamentarians. He called for fixing bureaucracy so as to ensure respect for the parliamentarians. He also criticised Punjab governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar.

Later talking to journalists, Rehman said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain talks of making Chaudhry Sarwar prime minister of the country but he could not win an election in his constituency.
