As many as four people were killed and six others injured in different violence incidents in the city on Friday.
Two extortionists were killed during encounter with police in rice godown area in Gulshan-e-Maymar.
Senior Superintendent of Police Irafan Bloch said that on a complaint, a police party raided rice godown in Gulshan-e-Maymar where an encounter took place with extortionists. During the crossfire, two extortionists were killed on the spot. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for an autopsy.
He said the two extortionists had demanded Rs 2 million extortion from businessman, Shahir.
In another incident, Muddasir, 28, son of Arif, was shot dead by unknown armed men near Kamran Chorangi near Jauhar Morr. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. A newborn baby was found dead in Pak Colony near Mewashah graveyard. The body was brought to Chhipa centre.
Four persons were injured in a hand grenade attack by unknown men in Gharib Shah shrine, Sadirbar Lanes.
The injured were identified as Azra, 2, daughter of Faisal, Sadiq, 8, son of Rashid; Kalsoom, 40, wife of Bahadur and Abdullah, 6.
They were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment. The SHO informed that Rangers signalled two suspected motorcyclists to stop near Gharib Shah shrine, Sadirbar Lanes, but they tried to escape and threw a hand grenade that injured four persons.
Separately, Pervez, 25, son of Haider, resident of Lyari, was shot at and injured by unknown armed men in Lyari. The injured were rushed to CHK for treatment.
Meanwhile, Shahid, son of Younus, resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was shot and injured by unknown armed men in SITE area. The body was rushed to ASH for treatment.
