‘Go Nawaz Go’ taking toll on PML-N nerves

“If they shout Go Nawaz Go again, we will beat them up with shoes,” Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Toufiq Butt Wednesday said in a press briefing after being served with the controversial chant while he was accompanying Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a visit to flood victims in Gujranwala.

The viral stinker, which has been following the PML-N lawmakers after its inception in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Azadi March in the federal capital, made its way to Gujranwala to confront the premier.

As the flood victims chanted “Go Nawaz Go” at the PML-N leaders’ car, MPA Butt got off the car to beat up the hecklers.

Similarly, earlier Wednesday, lawyers also chanted the anti-Nawaz slogan at the All Party’s Conference at Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) right after LHCBA President Shafqat Mahmood Chohan finished speaking at the event.

PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also present during the incident but seemed to have gestured to the lawyers to quiet down as he got into his car. In the meanwhile, some lawyers also protested against the chanting, while others joined the choir.

Last week, PML-N senior leader Hamza Shahbaz also had to suffer the chanting during his speech in Lahore while on Tuesday, in a similar case during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications, a fight broke out between two PML-N and PTI lawmakers when the PTI MNA reportedly shouted “Go Nawaz Go”.
