An Election Tribunal (ET) Monday de-notified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Dewan Ashiq Hussain Bukhari elected from NA-153, Jalalpur for having a fake degree. The tribunal also ordered re-election in the constituency.

Bukhari’s rival, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s Rana Mohammad Qasim had filed a petition in the tribunal in Bahawalpur against the former, accusing him of violating election rules.

The petitioner took the stance that the PML-N candidate had mentioned incorrect details before filing nomination papers in May 2013 general elections.

The election tribunal found the objections against Bukhari correct and declared him ineligible for membership of the NA.

The ECP had sent Bukhari’s graduation degree to Khairpur University for verification, which confirmed that it was bogus.
