Former minister rebukes MQM chief’s tirade against Army

*Alleges Ziaul Haq made Altaf Hussain a ‘leader’ therefore MQM chief should think twice before using foul language against armed forces

Lambasting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chairman Altaf Hussain’s for his recent “poisonous” diatribe against the Pakistan Army, former interior minister Mian Zahid Sarfraz also blamed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for straining ties with the army.

“The interior minister and the government should have responded to Hussain’s speech,” said Sarfraz at press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Monday. He added that the MQM chief’s speech showed that the party was still “Muhajir Qaumi Movement”.

“Hussain was a taxi driver abroad and was made a leader by former military dictator Ziaul Haq, so he should think before using foul language against the army,” said Sarfraz.

Sarfraz said that targeted killings have continued in Karachi for a long time but alleged that Hussain only raises hue and cry when MQM workers are arrested.

“Hussain wants to divide Sindh and hold Karachi hostage in order to blackmail the rest of the country,” Sarfraz alleged, adding that whoever raises a dissenting voice among the rank and file of the MQM is killed.

Hussain should remember that there are still people in the country who still believe in “Long live Quaid” and “Long Live Pakistan”, and they would foil any move against the country’s sovereignty, he added.

On the idea of division of provinces backed by MQM, Sarfraz said that there are bigger provinces in India but the country is not divided.

Speeches to divide the country should not be given and all should be united to take the country forward, reiterated Sarfraz.
