Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Monday demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Zardari to declare their actual assets, as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that the PTI chairman himself was among political leaders who had yet to disclose their asset details to the election watchdog.

As the deadline to submit asset details to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ends on Sept 30 (today), the ECP said that Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak were among several parliamentarians who had not submitted their asset details.

Out of 1,174 members of national and provincial assemblies, only 305 members have submitted their asset-ownership details to the ECP. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif submitted his asset details to ECP on September 26.

On July 9, the poll body had issued a notification, asking all lawmakers to submit details of their assets by September 30. ECP had said that if lawmakers fail to submit the details, their membership from the relevant assembly would be suspended.

Meanwhile addressing his supporters at the sit-in venue in the federal capital, Khan told his supporters to email the ECP asking it to make public details of assets of parliamentarians on its website.

“Not only do Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari hide their assets, the money they make from corruption is siphoned out of Pakistan,” Khan alleged during his speech.

The PTI chief said that his party’s legal team would counter check the asset details of Prime Minister Sharif today (Tuesday).
