Court gives last chance to DIGP for recovering missing person

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the DIGP South to ensure recovery and production of an alleged detained son of a Baloch leader in the court.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Mahpara Baloch seeking recovery of his brother, Nabeel Ahmed, said to be arrested by law enforcement personnel.

The court warned the DIGP South against disobedience of the order and warned that he had to appear in person in case the detained citizen was not produced before the court.

The petitioner’s counsel submitted that Nabeel, son of Kachkol Baloch, former provincial minister of Balochistan, was picked up by law enforcement personnel on August 30 and since then his whereabouts were unknown to his family.

He said his family members approached the concerned police station to seek information about his whereabouts but police officials feigned ignorance about the incident. The counsel said that the missing boy had nothing to do with the any political party or any illegal activity.

He apprehended that he might be killed in a fake encounter by law enforcement agencies. Therefore, he pleaded to the court to order law enforcement officers to produce him in the court. Hearing of case was adjourned till October 16.

Meanwhile, the same bench issued notice to the interior secretary, home secretary, Rangers director general, IGP Sindh and other police officials in three separate petitions against alleged unlawful detention of the citizens by law enforcers.

The petitioner Safia Baloch, resident of Chappal Garden, Main Abul Hassan Ispahani Road, submitted that her spouse Syed Affan Ahmed was taken into custody by law enforcement agencies on September 16 from the area and since then he was missing.

Another petitioner, Shakeela Begum, told the court that her son, Kashif Ali Khan, was picked up from New Karachi on September 21. She said she approached the concerned police station but they did not disclose any information about his whereabouts.

A petitioner, Muhammad Ashraf, said his nephew Kamran was arrested on August 20 outside his house near city courts. He said he registered complaint with the area police but they did not make any effort to recover him.
