LAHORE-
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered the immediate release of Gullu Butt, a pruivate news channel reported.
Butt, a police tout, rose to prominence when he was shown live on TV channel dvandalizing cars outside the Minhajul Quran Secretariate during clashes between police and supporters of MuQ and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr. Tahirul Qadri on June 17. More than a dozen people were killed in the incident.
During today’s hearing, LHC judge Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan declared the orders of Gullu Butt’s detention as illegal while adding that if there are any proofs against Butt, they should be produced in court.
On September 19’s court hearing, Butt pleaded not guilty to charges of vandalizing cars during June violence in Lahore.
In August, he was granted bail last month for security bonds of Rs 2 lacs, but was rearrested by police.
Butt is being tried under the charges of terrorism in a local anti-terrorism court (ATC).
