ATC remands Zehra Shahid’s ‘killer’ to police custody

An Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Friday remanded an accused Muhammad Rashid alias Master to police custody till October 2, 2014, in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zehra Shahid’s murder case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC-III judge under tight security. The investigation officer requested the court that police needed his interrogation and physical custody to trace their absconding accomplices, Zubair Abbas, Junaid and Atif.

The court accepted police request and remanded the accused to police custody till October 2 and directed the police to produce a progress report in next hearing. The accused was involved murder of Zehra Shahid on May 18, 2013, within the jurisdiction of Gizri police station.

According to police, accused was arrested on September 25 in illegal weapons case. During investigation, he confessed to killing Zehra Shahid.

PTI leader Zahra Shahid was gunned down soon after the general elections in 2013 inside her home in Defence. The case FIR 198/2013 was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Gizri police station.
