Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive mechanism to stabilise the prices of essential items in the province. Administrative officers in the province have also been directed to implement the mechanism for controlling prices in post-flood situation.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yasin while addressing a meeting of the Punjab Price Control Committee at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday.

A detailed briefing was given to the minister by administrative officers of the whole province regarding the measures taken for stabilising prices of essential commodities.

The district officers informed the minister that due to hurdles in the cultivation of land and transportation of essential items in flood-hit areas there is a trend of increase in the prices of some essential items.

They said that an eye was being kept on the rates of daily use items at district level and action was being taken against the elements involved in price-hike and profiteering.

They also informed that heavy fines were being imposed on those involved in hoarding and adulteration.

The minister directed the administrative officers that no effort be spared in the supply of necessary items to the people especially in flood-hit areas.
