Despite protests by parents, students and teachers of Islamabad, the district administration has failed to open all the schools and colleges and three colleges having enrollment of 5455 students are still occupied by the police force brought in Islamabad in connection with sit-ins of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI.)

Around 40 schools and colleges of the capital were given under control of Punjab Police on August 12 for their accommodation and later a number of schools and colleges were vacated gradually.

On Sept 3, the thrice revised date of re-opening of schools and colleges in the capital after summer vacations, 30 schools and colleges failed to open their gates to students. Importantly, none of the 8 model colleges situated in urban Islamabad could be re-opened as all of these were occupied by police due to availability of a large number of classrooms present for accommodation.

As the pressure from the parents and students grew on the administration, it lethargically started to vacate the schools and colleges from the police and up till Sept 19, only 11 of the occupied schools could be vacated.

In the third week of September, the patience of the parents ran out and protests were staged against the administration in front of many schools and colleges of the capital. Amid much furor from the civil society, on Sept 19, the Islamabad High Court directed the Islamabad Capital City (ICT) Administration to clear off the schools and colleges from the police in response to a writ petition filed by Islamabad traders.

But despite protests and orders of IHC, three model colleges namely IMCB F-7/3 (2747 enrolled students, IMCB F-8/4 (2700 enrolled students) and IMCB G-6/2 (1016 enrolled students) are still closed for 5455 students of these colleges.

The parents of students of these colleges protested to the administration as they fear loss of academic year of their children due to the closure of these schools. The management of these schools has already informed the Federal Department of Education (FDE) about their inability to make up for the lapse of considerable time.

  1. All thanks to Imran Khan who wishes to destroy Pakistan from within. His goals include defaulting Pakistan, declaring it a rogue state and of course, destroying educational infrastructure.
