Referring all anti-judiciary and contempt of court cases to a special bench, the apex court on Wednesday directed that all such cases be clubbed together for a uniform decision.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, issued the directives while hearing a similar case.
The apex court observed that all cases relating to anti-judiciary banners and contempt of court should be fixed before a specially constituted three-member bench so that the matters could be decided uniformly and unanimously, rather than separately.
The special bench, comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Mushir Alam, is set to hear the clubbed cases on September 29.
On September 9, the special bench also issued show cause notices to CEO of ARY news, Salman Iqbal and host of “Khara Sach” TV show, Mubasher Lucman for airing “baseless and humiliating programme” against the apex court’s judges and their family members on May 29.
The bench also expressed annoyance over non-appointment of a permanent Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
